The Teaching of
The Holy Ghost
Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are both members of the Godhead. The Godhead is comprised God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. Mormons believe that they are three different men that come together to build the kingdom of God. They each have distinct roles in bringing about this mission. The Holy Ghost does not have a body of flesh and bones like Heavenly Father or Jesus, but instead is in the form of a spirit, enabling Him to dwell within us. The Holy Ghost’s role is to be a companion to all those who are worthy and to testify of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
According to Mormon belief, Jesus taught the people about the Holy Ghost. In the New Testament, he warns that all sins can be forgiven except blasphemy against the Holy Ghost. To offend and deny Him would be one of the worst sins we could commit. Jesus encourages us to be worthy of the spirit at all times because when we are not, he will leave us. The Holy Ghost cannot dwell in unholy places. Throughout His life, Jesus taught by the power of the Holy Ghost. When Jesus taught the masses, it was the Holy Ghost who confirmed unto them that the things He taught were true. He played an integral role in aiding Jesus to teach the truthfulness of the gospel.
The Holy Ghost can be felt by anyone. But the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost can only be received through baptism. When Jesus was baptized, we read that the Holy Ghost transcended in the form of a dove and was His constant companion throughout His life. It is such an amazing thought that we as imperfect people have the same companion that led Christ throughout His life. The Holy Ghost will help us feel Christ’s love and influence us to make wise decisions. The Holy Ghost knows all things and can lead us to know future events. Jesus Christ was led by the Holy Ghost during His earthly dispensation.
In John 14:26, we read ,”The comforter, which is the Holy Ghost , whom the father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” He supports and uplifts all of Christ’s teachings unto us. He is a teacher, just as Christ is. Both He and Christ stand as witnesses of God and the truthfulness of His gospel.
